Loud noises can cause ear ringing. Trauma to the inner ear can cause ear ringing. The natural aging process can cause ear ringing. Whatever the cause of your ear ringing may be, it will fit into one of two categories, subjective or objective.

Objective tinnitus is a lot less common type of ear ringing, many more people are affected by subjective tinnitus. The easy way to determine which kind of tinnitus you have is to go to the ear doctor. If using professional tools the doctor cannot hear the ringing sounds in your ears, then you have subjective tinnitus. If the doctor can hear the sound using his tools, then you have objective tinnitus.

Whether you have objective or subjective tinnitus, it is easier to cure tinnitus if you know the cause of your case of tinnitus. It is much easier to find the cause and cure of tinnitus if you have an objective case, but unfortunately subjective cases are much more common. This is when old age, or general damage to the inner ear by exposure to extremely loud noises (this can happen at any age) is the cause.

To prevent these most common causes and stop suffering before it starts, there are some simple things you can do. When around loud noises, you can bring ear plugs to block out some of the noise. This means if you’re going to be up-front at a concert, near construction zones, etc, you should wear earplugs. Preventing any traumatic noises from being hard on your ears, you can prevent the main causes of ear ringing.
